Mike was the co-chair of Baker Botts’ Life Sciences IP Litigation group. He focuses his practice on patent litigation and appeals, as well as proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeals Board. He has handled numerous matters in a variety of life sciences technologies, including the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device fields. He has broad experience in all aspects of patent litigation, including everything from conducting pre-trial investigations to serving as a first chair litigator in federal court or lead attorney in PTAB proceedings. He has handled matters before juries, judges, panels, and arbitrators.

Mike also advises clients on a wide variety of patent matters such as licensing, due diligence, and mergers and acquisitions. He has also drafted opinions of counsel and assisted clients in settling disputes.

Mike dedicates a portion of his time to pro bono matters. He has represented pro bono defendants in proceedings before federal district and appellate courts, in licensing negotiations and settlement discussions, and in immigration matters.

In addition, he teaches a course on licensing and intellectual property at the George Mason University Law School and has lectured on similar subject matters to practicing patent attorneys and business professionals through CLE programs and as a faculty member for the Patent Resources Group.

Mike also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Washington, DC Chapter of the After-School All-Stars, which provides important after-school enrichment opportunities to middle school students in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout Washington, DC. Mike also serves on the Board of Directors of Potomac Valley Swimming, as the Safe Sport Chair. His responsibilities include promoting the equality and protection of athletes in one of the most highly revered swim leagues in the United States.
